Sport at Abberley Hall is fully inclusive, very diverse but also strongly competitive. We make the most of the impressive facilities by having a daily games session as well as a weekly PE lesson and also an extensive programme in the evenings and at weekends.

We take team sports very seriously and our first teams in all sports are of a very high standard, particularly Rugby and Cricket for the boys, and Hockey and Netball for the girls. It is also our aim, however, for every child to experience competitive fixtures against children of a similar ability. In the main sports we produce seven boys’ teams and nine girls’ teams across the age groups. We also produce teams for Football, girls' Cricket, Rounders, Swimming, Cross-Country, Athletics, Tennis and Fencing.

On match days, if a child is not competing in a team, an alternative programme of outward bound activities is offered including Shooting, Sailing, Climbing, and Kayaking on the river Teme.

There is also a strong outward bound programme running throughout the year both on and off site including camping expeditions. We have used the organization ‘World Challenge Expeditions’ in the past to help facilitate this provision but with the addition of Mr Carver on the Abberley staff who is a founder member of the World Challenge organization, we are now providing all of this in house.

Skiing trips are also offered to the school Chalet near Les Arcs.

We have toured South Africa five times in recent years with a boys Rugby team and a girls Hockey team. We also regularly host touring teams from around this country and abroad.

The facilities include extensive grass pitches, a full sized Astroturf, two tennis/netball courts, a sports hall and ricochet court, a 25 metre indoor swimming pool, a shooting range, riding stables and ménage, a climbing wall, an archery butt, a number of kayaks, a fishing lake, children’s gardens, and a number of mountain bikes.  These are all set amongst the ninety acres of woodland and countryside that form an integral part of life at Abberley Hall.

The standard of expertise and qualifications that we possess on the staff ensures that a high quality of coaching is provided at all levels. We have a former professional rugby player, a Para-Olympic swimming coach, an ex-RFUW coach and a highly qualified and experienced kayaking, climbing and abseiling instructor on the staff. Many of our staff hold coaching qualifications in a number of sports. We also bring in instructors and coaches for Fencing, Judo, Chess, Riding, Tennis and winter cricket nets. This is as well as the rest of the experienced and enthusiastic staff, most of whom take games.
