1st Rugby Sevens team make an encouraging start to the season
Christ College Brecon Seven-a-side Rugby Festival
Wednesday 6th February 2019
The Christ College Brecon Rugby Sevens Festival was a great way to kick off the sevens season. We had four matches of nine minutes with the aim of the afternoon to just play with no finals or medals. We took a squad of eleven players with everyone making great progress throughout the afternoon. We had a tough introduction to sevens rugby in our first match against a strong Monmouth team and were well beaten. The team responded well in the second match and played with far greater control to beat Gowerton narrowly. We were well into our stride against Bishop of Hereford. Two pin point kick offs by Ed R-D got us straight into the game and Ricard E ran in several tries. Our final match was against Christ College and the team produced a good display of defensive and attacking sevens. Ed P showed his pace running in a couple of tries and Ed L showed his power at the break down and in forcing his way over for a score. Will H led the team very well playing in several positions during the afternoon. Will R showed good hands and competed well over the ball. Wilfred B tackled well and chased the kick offs to good effect. Rory D was busy at scrum half sniping and competing for the ball. Hector C and Harry T won lots of ball and ran powerfully. Lysander M-E showed good hands getting the ball to our quick players outside.
We have the U12 Monmouth tournament on Wednesday 27th February and the Packwood U13 tournament on Saturday 2nd March to prepare for next.
