1st Seven have a competitive morning's rugby with Kenyan IAPS team
Kenyan IAPS Seven-a-side Rugby training and match play
Sunday 24th March 2019
After the excitement of the final night of the wonderful school production of Joseph on Saturday evening the boys washed off their beards and makeup and changed from Joseph’s brothers and hairy Ishmaelites into strapping rugby players. The Kenyan IAPS team are a team made up of four IAPS schools who come over to play in the National Schools Sevens tournament at Rosslyn Park. They were staying in Malvern and so we were invited to a training morning with the Malvern College coaches and some match play practice.
The training session was excellent focusing on handling, work at the breakdown and maintaining space. We then played 4 sessions of match play. The rugby was very competitive and well matched. Tries were scored at both ends and there was some good sevens rugby on display. The squad of Ed L, Hector C, Harry T, Will R, Will H, Rory D, Ed R-D, Ricard E, and Ed P all played well with some fast breaks from Ricard and Ed P, good handling, tough defence and a developing positional sense by all. This was a great morning in the continuation of our sevens development.
We then had lunch at Malvern College before the boys continued on their busy weekend with either paint balling or playing in a county hockey tournament.
There is one final opportunity for the boys to play some sevens rugby just after we break up on Friday at King’s Worcester.
