1st XI Football v Moor Park
This was a game characterised by real end-to end action as the advantage tipped between the home side and our visitors. The first fifteen was Abberley’s as the midfield pairing of Hector and Max linked up well with Miguel, Ryan and Ed, who were all playing high up as an attacking threat. Miguel went closest with a looping effort from the edge of the penalty area which hit the bar. Moor Park looked dangerous on the break while their goalkeeper stood form to deny several chances.
Tired legs were evident in the second half and Moor Park threatened to score. The Abberley players were less efficient at clearing their lines and were fortunate to be let off the hook. Max worked tirelessly in gaining possession and converting the ball to real attacking opportunities with confident dribbling. He hit the post through a fine solo effort. Bill also emerged as an option wide on the left while Ed continued to threaten. Douglas and Ben showed some good decision making in the final passages of play while Freddie made an excellent first team debut at left back and linked up nicely with Bill. Charlie played as the other wingback and successively mopped up loose balls and battled hard with his opposite number. Jonty had a good game in nets.
Pulses raced about seven minutes from the full time whistle. Jonty’s goal kick didn’t quite clear Ben or Doug and landed straight at the feet of the opposition. The shot was good but stopped. Moments later the ball found its way to Ed who had positioned himself wide on the right in an effort to find some space. Space he found. Ed set off and knocked it passed his markers, running at top speed towards the box where he managed to find himself one-on-one with the keeper, and duly slotted home from a tight angle.
