1st XI Football v The Downs (A)
Everyone was pleased that we got the nod to play on grass. We have been trying to play passing football; under lights last term, in training and of course in matches. The Downs pitch was in remarkably good condition given the recent deluge and it was brilliant to get going. The boys did pass well; Hector, Max and Harvey showed real willing. Henry has taken his chance and played very well on the left side of midfield; his fitness allows him to hustle, chase and pressurise when the opposition are in possession.
The Downs scored with two long range efforts either side of half time; one through a corner that was not dealt with and the other was a fine strike from outside the box. Jonty played well in goal and stopped another couple of shots from going in. The opposition had some physical players in defence and we struggled to get in behind them. Ed came close in a one-on-one and Miguel took a fine strike on the turn from a corner. Overall though, the side looked a bit flat and overawed by a confident opposition. These things happen; what's important is we dust ourselves off before Wednesday and get ready to go again. Final score; The Downs 2 – 0 Abberley.
