1st XIII make great strides since half term
Since half term the 1st XIII have had a full squad of players to select from except for Ed P and Jim B who are out of action for the term. The teams have really settled and the progress has been very impressive. The 1st XIII have competed well all season but often coming off second best. Strong performances against Bredon Hill, The Elms and Cheltenham were translated into a dominant performance against Moor Park and then a thrilling closely fought win against Packwood where a break away run from Ricard E following a turnover by Harry T on the last play of the game snatched victory.
Three of the players, Jaspar L, Harry T and Ricard E began the season in the 3rd XIII but are now strong players in the 1st XIII. Harry’s strength at prop has freed up Ed L to use his power at the breakdown and ball carrying ability from number 8. Hector C seems to be at every breakdown and is the heartbeat of the team. Lysander M-E has developed into a confident fly half who controls the game maturely. Will H and Ricard E have built a strong centre partnership. We have a young back three in Ed R-D, Wilfred B and Harry B-V but all tackle strongly and run with the ball effectively. In Ed R-D we have a second fly half and play maker. Rory D has sniped, kicked, tackled and distributed with a high level of energy and generally gives pace to the team. Kit C and Jaspar L carry and tackle increasingly effectively. Will R has great technique at the breakdown and possesses good hands.
The balance of the side is good and it is very rewarding to see a team develop to such an extent.
