3rd XI Football v Moor Park (A) Lost 5-2
3rd XI v Moor Park (A) Lost 5-2
Moor Park could not muster a full team so Daniel had volunteered to play for them before I had had a chance to suggest that someone other than one of our centre halves might be a more advantageous choice. The truth of this became clear as our hosts scythed through the centre of our defence, with a deft couple of passes between their two key attackers, and opened the scoring after five minutes.
Abberley drew level when Archie pounced on a clearance from the Moor Park goalkeeper, but, truthfully, 1-1 flattered us and it was not long before we were 4-1 down. There was no shortage of enthusiasm from our team but we were out-played for two thirds of the match. It was very pleasing to see how spirited the team became after that, though. Archie struck the crossbar twice but Max, whose maisy runs frequently made life difficult for Moor Park’s defence who was even more influential, as Abberley became the stronger side towards the end. On the second occasion when Archie so nearly scored, the ball bounced to a gleeful Jaspar, who lifted the ball into the roof of the net for our second goal – the final act of a splendid match.
