A great afternoon at the Abberley Fun Run
Abberley Hall Fun Run 2017
We have experienced a whole variety of weather conditions for the Abberley Fun Run over the years from torrential rain to blistering heat. This year we had a beautiful, sunny afternoon. The running course was dry and fast and many of the runners entered the fancy dress competition with the accustomed enthusiasm. There were great entries including ‘Donald Trump a Mexican and a wall’, a pair of witches, ‘ Cruella de Villar’ and ‘Malificent’. To see 115 competitors on the start line is quite a spectacle.
Although the village are now longer involved in the Fun Run, the school have continued what is a great day for children and parents to come and enjoy the beautiful Abberley grounds. We did not have the stalls organised by the village team such as the milking the cow, tombola, coconut shy and skittles but we had the bouncy castle, croquet, outdoor badminton, and the ever popular water slide at the end of the Fun Run.
Oscar Niblett won the boys’ race in a time of 14.21 followed by Olly Haggard and John Bartholomew. Sophia Berastain won the girls’ race in a time of 17.06 followed by Bella Kennedy and Louisa Marsden-Smedley.
We had lots of younger runners. Toby Brocklehurst won the U8 boys’ race in a time of 15.52 followed by Frank Thompson and Henry Hankin. Kitty Bartholomew won the girls’ race in a time of 15.50 followed by Alex Collins and her sister Georgina Collins.
We did not have a 10K race this year but those keener runners enjoyed the challenge of a shorter and faster undulating course.
Congratulations to all the medal winners but also to all those who took part. It is fantastic to see so many people of all ages running around the Abberley Hall grounds and enjoying an event such as this.
