A Young team perform well at the National X-Country Championships
The National Prep-Schools Cross-Country Championships
Sunday 10th March 2019
The conditions this year were good with a firm, mainly dry course but a very cold and strong wind. With up to 62 schools in a race and up to 270 runners the fields were huge and with lots of supporters along the course. We took a very young team this year with all but two of the eighteen runners being at least a year under age including four Form Twos (Beatrice S, Scarlett W, Sebastian H and George B). It was great that so many were prepared to run on their exeat weekend.
The two strongest performers were Kitty B (33/260) and Joe S (34/213). Emily K (66/148) and Yoan H-B (77/270) also ran very well to achieve top eighty positions.
The whole squad put in a huge effort and the experience will be invaluable for next year and beyond. I know lots of them are already plotting their challenge.
The whole experience of competing in such a huge event was fantastic. Having race numbers with chipped timing was also something new.
We want to maintain the culture of running regularly at Abberley and to keep the competition for places in the team strong.
