All In Weekend - 23rd and 24th September 2017
On Sunday we had lovely autumnal weather to enjoy the fantastic Abberley grounds. After breakfast the choir had a rehearsal while the rest wrote letters home. We then had a busy chapel for our first Chapel service of the term. The installation of the Head and Deputy Head choristers took place and Rev. Simon Tarleton gave an inspiring address. The choir and large congregation were all in good voice. We also had some recent OA’s joining lots of parents at the service which is always great to see.
After Chapel there was a play rehearsal for the top year Greek play. Other activities included a swim, shooting, bike riding and football.
After a roast lunch all of the seventy boarders divided into their Patrols and we had a competition in the woods where each patrol had to build a shelter, light a fire (with one match) and cook some marshmallows. The Peewits created a very impressive shelter and a well-controlled fire with a tidy stone surround which earned them victory over worthy challenges from the other three Patrols
After the sugar rush of the toasted marshmallows everyone either played mixed hockey or joined a large game of capture the flag where the flags were positioned at opposite sides of the grounds. Once lots of energy had been expended some went inside to make friendship bands whilst others rode bikes, played more capture the flag or continued with their game of hockey.
After tea some emailed home whilst lots entered the conker competition which was a new experience for many. With conkers bored and strung with laces many a battle took place with Kit C ending up with the champion ‘eighteener’ conker.
Another short play rehearsal then took place whilst everyone else relaxed in the day room with table tennis, pool or watched a film before making their way wearily to bed.
