An entertaining first Gymkhana at Abberley
Yesterday we had our first Gymkhana held in the riding school at Abberley Hall. It was a hugely entertaining afternoon with all the riders who have lessons at school competing in six heats before the final took place with the heat winners.
Each heat involved several events. The first event was weaving in and out of poles up and down the menage. The second event involved taking a cup off a post and returning it to the next pole and then repeating before turning and racing to the finishing line. The third event involved riding to the end of the menage before dismounting and leading the pony to the finishing line. The final event was a bit like musical chairs except this time riders rode around the outside of the menage until a whistle blew. Riders then had to dismount before racing to one of the remaining mats placed around the inside of the menage. There was always one less mats than riders. The rider who did not race to a mat was eliminated.
The Heat winners were:
Heat 1. Lily W( Leading Rein )
Heat 2. Duncan H
Heat 3. Ellie M
Heat 4. Poppy P
Heat 5. Jimmy H
Heat 6. Minty O
Minty O was the overall Gymkhana winner
The whole afternoon was great fun. There were lots of parents and children supporting and lots of rosettes were won.
