And the winner is.....
For the last sixteen years, children from Abberley Hall have made a biennial trip to South Africa as a part of a sports and culture experience. During that time, guided by retired Colonel Reggie Purbrick, they have nurtured a relationship with the Philanjalo Care Centre.
This years Abberley group will visit at Easter 2018 and as usual all the pupils are trying to raise money for the charities that they support out there.
Daniel first started thinking of ways he could raise money through sponsored walks, then contacting celebrities for items to auction. He even wrote to HRH Prince Harry and asked if he could help. The Prince’s secretary kindly wrote back, but said they could not help with any item.
So, Daniel thought he could sell a sheep to help. He has just set up his own flocks of Zwartbles and Border Leicester sheep with his own prefix Haydan. His parents thought that as he had only just begun his sheep breeding in his own name that this would be a step too far and so offered him two of their Beech Hay Zwartbles lambs to raffle.
Of course, this was a big gamble. What would happen if no-one wanted the option of two sheep? However, it has proven to be a huge success with friends and family coming together to support and over £2400 has been raised to donate to the fund.
Mr Locket, Headmaster, & Mr Nigel Richardson Deputy Head and Co-ordinator of the trip to South Africa drew the winning ticket with Daniel on Saturday 9th and the winner of these two lambs was Mrs Chloe Shaw of Mildene Boer Goats & Garden Nurseries, near Newport.
The money will be given to the school which will then make the gift to Philanjalo directly on behalf of the children of Abberley Hall.
