Aquathlon team finish second at The Downs Aquathlon
Report – The Downs Aquathlon at Malvern College
Saturday 20th May 2016
On Saturday morning we took a team to Malvern College to take part in the Downs Aquathlon. The event involved swimming 100m and then running from the pool to the transition area where tee-shirts and trainers had to be put on as quickly as possible before running about 1km around the Malvern College grounds. The clock began with diving off the blocks into the water and stopped when the athlete crossed the finishing line at the end of the run.
We took four teams of four athletes in each U11 boys and girls and U13 boys and girls. Everyone swam very strongly, managed reasonably smooth transitions and worked hard around the running course resulting in a 2nd placed school overall.
Ryan T, Oliver R-D, Harriet C and Bella K all led their group of athletes around the course and must have been competing closely for medals. Several of the team were a year young and Kitty B also put in a gutsy performance from the Form1s. We have not had the times sent to us yet.
All enjoyed the experience and this may lead on to other multi-sport events in the future especially as the top year train hard on their bikes for the 100 mile charity bike ride as part of the Leavers’ Programme.
