Big Boarding weekend and Fun Run/ Sponsored Stretcher race
Report All In Weekend 27/28 April 2019
This was our first All-In Weekend of the term and only a couple of days in. It was also our first ‘Big Boarding Weekend’ where day children were invited to come and experience boarding. With over 30 extra boarders there was a great atmosphere and lots of fun was had. On Saturday afternoon sadly our matches against Packwood were cancelled due to the stormy weather but conditions brightened up and so we were able to battle the wind and play some cricket outside. After games children had free time to play in the sports hall, the workshop, the art room and the day room. After tea we had a patrol quiz and then the younger ones had a disco and the older ones had some fun games in the sports hall.
On Sunday we had a morning Chapel service with Mrs Coward, Head of Lower School at Concord College giving the address. The children then got their costumes ready for the Fun Run and Sponsored Stretcher race in the afternoon. Afterwards we got the water slide out for its first session of the summer. After tea we had a huge game of Capture the Flag covering most of the school grounds.
Early bed times were then had after a busy and fun weekend.
Abberley Hall Fun Run and Stretcher Race 2019
We have experienced a whole variety of weather conditions for the Abberley Fun Run over the years from torrential rain to blistering heat. This year we had a sunny if a little chilly afternoon. We had the addition of the Sponsored Stretcher Race this year using military stretchers kindly provided by Mr Brocklehurst. The money being raised is for a new PX extraction board for the swimming pool. The Royal Lifesaving Society came along to support the event. With 60 runners and 13 stretchers with 4 carriers each it was a very well supported event. There were also lots of people cheering on and a few dogs in the mix.
Those taking part in both the Stretcher race and the Fun Run entered the spirit of the occasion by dressing in all manner of fancy dress. The Hankin/Morgan team were very smart in Black tie carrying a very well dressed, if slightly inebriated lady, on the stretcher cleverly advertising the Abberley Hall Summer House Ball on 8th June. Other notable costumes included various doctors, nurses and paramedics, lifeguards, bees, McDonald’s chips and sauce to name but a few.
The Brocklehurst stretcher was the first to cross the line in an impressive time of 11.17
Ben Evriviades came back to Abberley to win the Fun Race in a time of 14.42. Arrabella S was the first girl back in 16.35. The first U8 girl back was Bea S in 16.39 and the first U8 boy was Jonathon E in 16.24, who was also the third runner overall.
The ever popular waterslide came out later on to cool down and refreshed willing participants
Congratulations to all the medal winners but also to all those who took part. It is fantastic to see so many people of all ages running around the stunning Abberley Hall grounds.
