Centenary Celebrations begin

Abberley Hall Centenary Celebrations

A Hundred years ago a school was born

From its home in Blackheath, Lindesfarne was torn

Forty young, nervous yet excited boys

Gathered on the platform at Paddington full of joys

The danger of zeppelin bombs they had left behind

The wonders of a country estate they were to find

At Abberley Hall

The final leg a charabanc bus

At the Hundred House they disembarked with little fuss

A stroll up the hill to John Joseph Jones’ gates

A race up the drive to see what awaits

A Hundred years on, a day to celebrate and commemorate

Worcester Cathedral is full with pupils present and past, the good and the great

Mr Schellenberg’s fanfare sounds as the service begins

The choir, as ever, beautifully sings

Trumpets and Timpini help create the wonderful sound

Readings from Headmasters old and new and wise words from the Bishop were found

Back to Abberley Hall for a reception and delicious meal

Old friends reminiscing at the school’s ‘special feel’

Guided tours by staff and prefects to places old and new

Wonderful tales from OA’s of the things they used to do

The finale in the Ashton and James Landale’s fascinating chat with MP’s

Mark Garnier, Philip Dunne and Owen Paterson were the esteemed three

Tea and some purchases of beautiful mugs and silk ties

The afternoon too soon over, old friendship never dies

More celebrations to follow in a special year for Abberley Hall

On the South Terrace in December the Christmas Centenary Ball

A Spring Gala concert in March to Worcester Cathedral we return

The Grand Prom and Musical Finale in June, a fitting final turn.
