Colts A Rugby team outstanding at the Packwood VIIs

Colts A at The Packwood VIIs

Wednesday 21st September

With a squad of 9 keen boys, we travelled to Packwood having had two really good sessions earlier in the week to aclimatise back to rugby again.  It had been a disappointment to lose 2 of our players in the lead-up to the competition, but this gave Elliott and Harry G an opportunity to play, which they took with both hands.

In our group, we started against Magdalene House, the junior school to Wisbech College. It was a very one-sided game and we came away with a 9-0 victory against an opposition who weren’t ever in the game. We looked good but realised there were tougher challenges to face.

In our second match, we played another fairly weak side in Altringham Prep. This time we scored 6 tries and continued to play good, attractive rugby.

In the third group game, we played the team that had in the past few years been the school to beat, Mouslford Prep. They travel up to Packwood with 2 teams every year and are always one of the best teams in the country.  They have 52 boys in their Y6 year compared to our 21 and they play 2 terms of rugby with their VIIs teams. However, they also play excellent rugby and it is always a pleasure to play them. This year we got closer than ever before with a 4-2 loss, although Wilf did score 2 excellent tries and we battled incredibly hard.

This took us into the playoff with the other two 2nd place teams in their groups. We comfortably beat Packwood, and although Moulsford B gave us more trouble we were comfortable winners of that game in the end. This left us in 4th place, although 3rd was possibly more realistic!

Well done to Ed, Will, Wilf, Rory, Miles, Elliott, Harry, Luca and Jim. We are now looking forward to the tournaments at Warwick Prep and King’s, Worcester later in the term.
