Colts B v Hereford Cathedral School (H) Lost 0-10

Colts B v Hereford Cathedral School (H) Lost 0-10

A second consecutive thumping loss was a sad way to end a season which we had all enjoyed until then. Hereford were stronger and more competent. They passed the ball, and tackled more often than we did. Our team was often guilty of solo, pseudo-super-hero (ie selfish) runs that ended with opposition tackles rather than passes or offloads. Some of our team ran sideways with the ball, others ran backwards rather than come into contact with defenders.

The one really positive run that Abberley produced saw Jackson released on the left wing by uncharacteristically adept passing from teammates. A dynamic dash for the line was on the point of resulting in points when a Hereford tackler felled Jackson spectacularly. Poor Jackson was not the same after this and, since we had also lost Elliott to an Achilles injury (which he informed onlookers was a problem with his pelvis), our attacking threat, never terribly potent yesterday, was down-graded from ‘mild’ to ‘soggy’.

The boys in this team have been fun to work with. Most are ending the season better players than they started. Most understand what it is to play as a team and to try to support one another. All have benefitted from the lusty and tireless support of parents who have shared the highs and lows that inevitably occur in a season. Thanks to everyone who has played their part in such and enjoyable few weeks.
