Debut tournament hosts and winners!

This was the first B team tournament that Abberley have hosted and I am sure it will be the first of many. Abberley had a diverse squad of Daisy in goal, Harriet, Meadow, Frances, Anastasia, Matilda, Apolline, Isabella, Molly A and Molly W. The first match was a close 0-0 draw against Bromsgrove U12s. Match 2 was against Bromsgrove U13Cs during which Molly W scored off the right after a cross in from Izzy. A little too much ball watching in the third match against U13Bs allowed their players to be unmarked in the D in and they slipped one in past Daisy. We had some good opportunities but needed to do a better job at keeping possession and looking after the ball. We lost that game 0-1. Our fourth match was then against The Downs Malvern, which was another close game but we had several chances. Fortunately Izzy scored from in close to give us another 1-0 win.

After two games off we then had a great game against Moor Park. Harriet and Frances worked hard in defence with Daisy making several good saves. Apoll and Tilda worked hard to move the ball forward and it was Izzy again, who gave us the win. She was clearly on a roll as in match 6 she scored off a short corner to give us our 4th win.

Abberley finished in 1st place, which meant we then played in a final against 2nd place Moor Park. This was another cracking match. Pressure was on and Abberley made some good drives forward. It was Tilda who put us into the lead with a lovely push shot – well deserved on her birthday! After defending a short corner, Abberley then got into a muddle with face masks and while Daisy was distracted Moor Park scored and drew level. Abberley were determined not to let the match end on that and some improved connection allowed Izzy to score her fourth of the day, to give Abberley the victory and end up tournament winners! Izzy was also awarded player of the match by Moor Park.

A super effort from the B team squad, and an extremely enjoyable tournament. Let’s do it again!
