Four Shell children enjoy a Celebration Event of an Essay Competition at Shrewsbury School
Sir Philip Sidney Essay Competition Celebration Event
Shrewsbury School Friday 8th February 2019
On Friday four children (Macy O’N, Harry A-J, Wallace K, and Anastasia K) from the Shells were selected to attend the Celebration Event at Shrewsbury school for the Sir Philip Sidney Essay Competition. Their essays were on the title ‘What Makes Humans Human?’ similar to the Radio 2 feature with Jeremy Vine where famous people read an essay and then engage in a discussion on the question.
The event involved members of staff from many departments at Shrewsbury school giving a short presentation on the issue ‘What Make Humans Human?’ The Classics, Drama, Chemistry, Biology, Philosophy, History and Art departments all gave a presentation where the children were involved. All of the children were then divided into three groups and they rotated around three activities from the Art, Drama and Chemistry departments.
There followed a brief presentation of the winning essays and a short speech by the Headmaster before a delicious tea was provided.
It was great for the children to have their essays recognized and to enjoy an intellectually stimulating afternoon with like-minded children form other schools.
