IAPS hockey report
The U11 girls had a very early start to journey down the motorway to Millfield for the IAPS national finals. After a good run on the motorway we hit a bad patch, learnt the road was closed, Miss P navigated a 5 point turn on a narrow road to reroute to then be told by a policeman the road was reopened, so another 5 point turn got us on our way again.
We arrived and warmed up quickly before we had to clear the Astro for the tournament to begin. In the first match against Sutton Valance we went 0-1 behind and then we almost levelled with an excellent short corner, but their goalkeeper made an equally good save.
Our second and third games were tough with Holy Cross beating us 0-2 and St George’s 0-3, but at no point did the girls give up, and in both of these games we only conceded in the first half.
We then gained a tight draw against Witham Hall 0-0 before having a really long break in our games. After the break we came out hard and scored our first goal with Bella getting through against Derwent Lodge. We then carried this on and scored another. They did get one back, but we defended well for a 2-1 win!
Our final match against Blundell’s was tight and we got some excellent balls through, but it remained a 0-0 draw.
I was extremely pleased with how all of the girls played today, and how well they worked as a team. We came 6th in our group and held our own in all of the games. Well done to the squad of Beth, Emily, Frances, Sylvie, Bella, Isabella, Lottie, Emma and Minty.
