The Learning Support Department is central to the ethos of Abberley Hall in helping the school to encourage the all-round development of each individual within a caring community. Self-esteem and social confidence is promoted by participation and achievement in lessons, games and extra-curricular activities.
The role of the LS Department is to make sure that this is an achievable goal for every child within the school. We have a large LS department with four tutors, all with specialist qualifications in Specific Learning Difficulties.
We aim to identify any barriers to learning and participation that a pupil may be experiencing at the earliest possible opportunity, and are able to offer prompt intervention to children with a wide range of SPLDs including dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. We have good relationships with external professionals such as optometrists, speech therapists and educational psychologists, with ready access to their expertise.
We are keen to work in partnership with parents and pride ourselves on good communication between home and school.
