Lunchtime Concert

On the 17th March we presented our third and final Lunchtime Concert of this term.

With the hall being prepared for the forthcoming production of ‘The Sound of Music’ a sense of performance was already in the air. All the children performed really well and to a very large and appreciative audience which brought to a close this terms’ series of highly successful Lunchtime Concerts.

The programme was as follows :-

The Percussion Ensemble got us off to a terrific start with a performance of ‘The Heads’ by C. Brooks

Lewis L then gave a vibrant and rhythmic performance of ‘Stamping Dance’ by D. Blackwell on the violin.

Jessica A then gave a charming rendition of a pianists ‘Setting Up Exercise’ by J. Thompson

Emily J then made our feet tap with an assured performance of ‘Hopping Along’

by A. Bullard on the flute

Apolline H-B continued the jolly theme with a jaunty performance of ‘Shepherd’s Hey’ on the piano

The 12-strong String Ensemble showed us that you could make a great sound without using bows with an animated rendition of the Pizzicato Polka by J. Strauss

Daisy C followed this with the cleverly written ‘Chinese Crackers‘ on the piano making full use of all the harmonics and playing with great care and sensitivity

Five beats in a bar is sometimes tricky but Jemima G made it sound easy when she played ‘Take 5’ by D. Brubeck on the violin with great panache.

Sylvie G gave a highly musical and assured performance of ‘The Pet Shop’ by J. Schaum, clearly demonstrating her knowledge of dynamics.

Cameron E charmed us all with his elegant account of ‘The Swan’ by C. Saint-Saens creating the most beautifully musical and stable sound on his oboe and

Junior Choir got us going to afternoon school with a spring in our step and a smile on our faces with a bouncy and joyful account of ‘I Whistle a Happy Tune’ by Rogers & Hammerstein.

Thank you to all the performers who have worked so hard and have given so much pleasure over this term and to all those who have supported this series of Lunchtime Concerts. “A real treat in the middle of a busy day”.
