Malvern College U13 Tournament
The U13As had their final outing of the season today at the Malvern College U13 Tournament. We had a close first game against the Elms with some good shots on goal but fell foul to an untimely mistake in our D which allowed the Elms to score a pretty soft goal. We then went straight on to play Moor Park and got off to a super start almost scoring first with several near misses and shots just slipping wide. We held our ground and defended well but Moor Park’s ball speed and pace running onto the ball soon wore us down. Abberley did well to only let them score twice in the 16 minutes and there were some great saves from Evelyn. Match three was against Christ College Brecon which began a little scrappy and muddled. However, Abberley soon found their form and stretched the pitch to their advantage. The final score was 4-0 with a hatrick from Poppy and a great finish from Julia. The final match was against The Downs Malvern who we had lost to heavily earlier on in the season. This was a very even contest but Issy, Immy and Rachel made some key tackles and made it difficult for The Down’s to penetrate. At half time the score was 1-1, Abberley were playing some great hockey and were determined to finish on a high. Julia and Charléé both had good attempts at scoring but it was in the final few minutes when Grace dribbled through the middle into the D and then, selflessly, gave a perfectly timed pass to Poppy to score the goal and give Abberley the lead. Abberley finished a respectable third and we were all very grateful to get into the warm.
The girls have made notable progress all season and I am particularly proud of how they have gelled as a team.
