Excellent pastoral care is the key ingredient for a happy and successful boarding experience. We offer full-boarding for seven nights a week, weekly and part time boarding options. We also welcome day pupils to try boarding for a night or two to see if they enjoy it. Most of them do!

Boarders at Abberley enjoy a fun-packed day. They take advantage of the clubs and activities that run each evening and can enjoy a dynamic programme of weekend activities as well as an opportunity to relax and enjoy unstructured free time in our magical setting. The children have cosy bedrooms and common rooms that give them space to be themselves and to relax with their friends.

Houseparents are located within the boarding house and provide a loving and structured style and ensure that family values and kindness are at the heart of our boarding community. Houseparents are supported by a team of matrons and teachers who live in the grounds of Abberley Hall with their own families and join in with the evening duties and weekend activities.

Parents of boarders liaise with Houseparents whenever the need arises and they are welcome to contact the Headmaster and his wife, who live in a house attached to the main school and are also very much a part of the boarding team at Abberley. All staff involved in running our boarding community know the children extremely well as individuals and ensure that the boarding experience is warm and welcoming. We have a qualified nurse in residence and her surgery offers a haven if one is needed. We have an Independent Listener if a child ever feels the need to contact someone beyond their circle of family, friends and school staff.

“As teachers, and parents to three young adventurers, we are here to nurture, support and encourage your child throughout their journey at Abberley Hall. Boarding teaches children independence and organisational skills as well as what it is to be part of a community and to build strong friendships. But most of all it is an adventure and a world of opportunities available to all pupils in a safe and secure environment. From fun-filled evening activities where children can learn new and interesting skills to themed weekends and boarding parties, there are countless opportunities for children to try new things. Our role is to open children’s eyes to the possibilities around them and to build the confidence to seize them with both arms.

The boarding house is based on traditional family values, where we all look out for one another, and where every member is as important as the other, from the nervous first-time boarder who needs extra reassurance and bedtime stories, to the Top Year boys who may need more quiet discussion, advice and guidance as they prepare for the next stage of their journey at senior school. The boarders know that our family is their family and] that their needs and happiness is our top priority.

We welcome you to Abberley Hall and cannot wait for your children to start exploring new opportunities, having adventures with their friends, and making amazing memories which will last a lifetime!”

“The boarding house is a ‘home away from home’, where children are encouraged to be themselves and where their wellbeing and happiness is our first priority. Boarders aged 7 to 13 live together, creating a family atmosphere in which the older girls act as ‘big sisters’ supporting the younger girls and helping them to settle in.

Treat nights and activity nights bring a huge amount of fun, laughter and excitement to the evenings and the girls are given the opportunity to choose what they would like to do, which brings the year groups together and also ensures that the girls are always enjoying themselves.

Boarding staff are in contact with parents and guardians regularly and the girls keep families up to date with all the fun and exciting news from the boarding house.

Boarding at Abberley is a magical experience, where lifelong friendships are built and nurtured. The boarding house is a place of safety and security for children to enjoy their childhood. We look forward to welcoming your child to Abberley Hall and to helping them enjoy the adventure.”
