Performing Arts Showcase 1st June

On a beautiful June afternoon with the sunshine flowing through the Ashton Hall windows, we presented our fourth Performing Arts Showcase of this term. One would have thought that there would be little to listen to after the Grand Summer Concert, but how wrong I was! There was a great list of splendid dramatic and musical performances who presented a very varied and highly enjoyable programme

The programme was as follows :-

Sophie A got us off to a fine musical start with a very fluent and jolly account of ‘The Ol’ Cotton Picker’ on the piano

Annabella G & Anastasia K gave a superbly clear and amusing performance of ‘Squeak & Maiow’! by L. E. McCullogh

Sophie G continued the Showcase with a brave, unaccompanied and toe-tapping performance of ‘Zip a Dee Doo Da’ by A. Wrubel on the violin

Lily W then played the beautiful tune from the slow movement of the ‘New World Symphony’ by A. Dvorak on the piano with real tenderness of touch

Cecily H, Alexa H & Meadow P then gave a vibrant and powerful dramatization of ‘Coraline’ by N. Gaiman

Holly Y made her clarinet debut with an affectionate performance of the jazzy ‘Sundown’ by J. Rae

Sebastian H made a welcome return to the piano stool for a pirouetting ‘Ballet Dancer’ by J. Thompson

Edward R-D then made us all laugh with his fabulously clear rendition of ‘The Word Party’ by  R. Edwards

Meadow P came back to the musical stage with a really charming interpretation of ‘The Girl I mean to be’ by L. Simon making everyone listen to her beautiful voice

Kit C continued the charm with a poignant performance on the clarinet of ‘Georgie’ by E. Johnson showing a good depth of tone

Oliver B brought a real hush to the hall with his fantastic account of a section of ‘Beowulf’ by

D. Calcutt making the audience hang on his every word

Isabella H danced her way through a violin version of ‘Take Five’ by D. Brubeck making us tap our feet to 5 beats in a bar, and

Jim B sent us on our way to afternoon school with a very rhythmical, clear and exciting performance ‘The Smugglers Song’ by C. le Flemming

The next Performing Arts Showcase is on Friday 22nd June at 1:40pm

We look forward to seeing you!
