Securing a Bright Future for Abberley Hall

I am delighted to announce that Abberley Hall has joined the Malvern College family of schools securing a bright, exciting and independent future for our school and enabling us to continue to provide the exemplary educational vision and pastoral care for which Abberley has a strong reputation.

Under this arrangement Abberley will continue as a separate charity, with its own board of governors and will retain its current and unique ethos. We will remain on our current site and be an autonomous member of the Malvern College family of schools.

Our strategy remains to focus on being the outstanding boarding-focused prep school in the region and to prepare our pupils for a smooth and successful transition to the country’s leading senior schools.

The Boards of Governors at both schools recognise that there is a shared educational and pastoral ethos and together we will better meet the demands of a rapidly changing market sector and the uncertainty of political and economic factors outside of our control.

There are significant benefits to both schools forming a much closer and more formal association. Malvern College has committed to a substantial investment in Abberley Hall over the next four years enabling us to build on what is already great about our school while also securing a strong future.

The two schools already have a close relationship; pupils from our school visit Malvern College for sports fixtures, coaching sessions, science events, drama and music productions and we will be able to expand on these opportunities. In the future our teachers and heads of departments will benefit from shared best practice with Malvern College, invitations to attend workshops and conferences held at the College whilst developing innovative and inspiring teaching that will enable our pupils to excel in their academic studies and co-curricular activities.  There will also be opportunities to combine support services and to draw on the expertise that a larger organisation affords.

In the interests of answering any questions or concerns you may have concerning this decision, please follow this link to the school website to find a document containing Answers to some Questions we thought may well arise in relation to this: https://www.abberleyhall.co.uk/files/qas.pdf

I am confident that Abberley Hall joining the Malvern College family of schools will secure a stronger, sustainable and bright future for our school and our community of parents, pupils and staff.

Keith Metcalfe, Headmaster at Malvern College said: “The governing bodies of both Malvern College and Abberley Hall recognise that joining forces means we will be better able to meet the demands of a rapidly changing market sector, and the uncertainty of political and economic factors beyond our control. By sharing resources, best practice and expertise, overheads can be reduced, and efficiency improved.”

Robin Black, Chairman of the Board of Governor’s at Malvern College continued: “Malvern College is very much looking forward to the prospect of collaborating with Abberley Hall in providing the very best independent boarding education possible for our pupils.”

Headmaster of Abberley Hall, Will Lockett said: “I am confident that Abberley Hall joining the Malvern College family of schools will secure a stronger, sustainable and bright future for our school and our community of parents, pupils and staff.”

James Tanner; Chair of Governors, Abberley Hall added: “As Chair of Governors, an OA and a present and past parent of three children at Abberley, I am absolutely delighted that Abberley is joining the Malvern College family of schools. This is the fruition of well over two years of work by our governing board to find the right partner and one which shares the same educational and pastoral ethos."
