U10 RGS Cricket Festival

With the sun finally out we embarked on our first match of the season against RGS in a rapid 8-over game. RGS batted first but our bowling and fielding was sharp and we took four wickets, thanks to great bowling from Henry and Seb and Oscar took a super catch at cover. We limited RGS to 34 runs, with an exceptional boundary diving save from Henry and we were able to start our tally on 16. RGS took 6 wickets adding 24 to their score so we had to continue responding with the bat. It all went down to the last ball; both teams were on 58 runs, the ball went high off George’s bat, he and Henry ran it and must have been praying hard as it was just dropped by an RGS fielder – Abberley won by one run, but could so easily have lost by four! Match 2 was equally as close, although we only took two wickets from Oscar and a catch by George. Despite great batting from Seb and a six from Henry we finished 3 short of KSA’s total of 59. Match 3 was against HCJS, super bowling from everyone limited them to 26 runs and wickets came for Oscar and once again Seb and George took catches. We lost our wicket four times, allowing HCJS to stay in the game but finished comfortably ahead with 62 against 48.

At the end of the pool stages Abberley, RGS and KSA were all on 9 points with 2 wins and 3 bonus points! In the end it came down to who had scored the most runs in total and we finished 2nd behind KSA. A fantastic result, and great team effort for our first outing of the term. Well done in particular to Rosie, Seb and George the three U9s. We were also the only team to have girls and both Rosie and Kitty held their own and were congratulated by the other coaches.
