U11A v Hymers College

Today I had the pleasure of umpiring the U11s team in a home match against a touring team from Hull. A few of the A team were being rested in preparation for Friday’s IAPS tournament which allowed Emily, Bibi and Anastasia the opportunity to have a match in the As. Isabella and Lottie were strong down the wing, and Minty was quick to close down the ball. Isabella has developed a strong hit and was able to cross the ball in from the right and she had many shots on goal – three of which ended up successful. Lottie needed a bit more support on the left despite great efforts to roll out and cross the ball in. She also scored a well deserved goal having set up the first for Isabella. Frances was strong in defence and Beth made several good saves, keeping Hymers at bay whenever they looked dangerous. They did score off a well-worked passing move when Abberley all got drawn towards the ball and left a player unmarked on the p-spot. The U11s had great pace off the ball, there were moments when the game became very narrow and the girls began to panic; pushing the ball off their stick to nobody and losing possession. However, when they remembered to stretch the pitch and make it as big as possible they were very successful. I was impressed with all the girls, it was a lovely, friendly game with the final result 5-2 to Abberley. We all made new friends and hope that Hymers College visit us on another tour in the future.
