U13A finish the season with a medal!
The U13As have finished the season in style. It may only be a silver medal but bearing in mind that 7 of the 8 girls are still only U12 then it was a great achievement. The tournament started amidst rain and strong winds. First match was against Kings Worcester and we went 1-0 up in the first half thanks to a short corner. We couldn’t quite finish off our other opportunities and just before the final whistle, Kings were able to equalise. We were happy with a draw. After a match off we next played Hatherop Castle. This was a well matched game but Abberley piled on the pressure and the final score was 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bella. We next played Lucton and put 3 away before half time; 2 from Arabella and then a 3rd from Emma. In the 2nd half Minty put us further ahead. We then had our toughest pool game against The Downs Malvern. There was great stuff happening at both ends and Beth had a huge part to play in keeping Abberley in the game. Abberley were awarded a short corner in the second half and after an initial strike from Arabella, Bella picked up the rebound and slotted the ball nicely in the right hand corner of the goal. Abberley then showed great discipline to defend against the rising pressure. Excellent tackles from Sylvie and Emily were also key in holding on to this lead. Abberley finished the group games top of pool A which meant they went on to play The Elms in the Final. This was another exciting game. Abberley had to up the work rate and Lottie and Emma were both excellent on the wings. Unfortunately, The Elms were stronger on the day and managed to score twice to seal the win.
