U13A rugby team draw in 14 try thriller at Beaudesert

Report – U13A XIII v Beaudesert

Wednesday 1st November 2017

This was the first time that the team played purely as an U13 team and the boys produced an excellent performance in a thrilling match at Beaudesert. A little bit of shuffling around was required late in the day as Henry A and Oliver B succumbed to a bug and Ben E had a stiff neck, but Archie M-S and Daniel G stepped in and played well. Archie, in particular had a fine match scoring a good try and handling the ball well. Seven tries each tells the story of a free flowing match where the ball was passed around impressively and attack tended to dominate over defence. This was true in our case in the first half where dropping off a couple of tackles let in tries. As with our last match against The Elms our defence in the second half was far more robust and the boys produced a passionate display which delivered a good result.

The new 1st XIII Colours recipients of Harvey P, Henry W, Jonty M and Ben M all had strong matches. Harvey P led with increasing authority giving the team direction and also scored two tries.

Sam B and Douglas D both continued their good form with ball in hand, in defence and also in scoring two good tries each. Bill H has also continued his impressive form at centre after recovering from sore feet.

The whole team played with great energy. With the U12 team also playing well we are now in the strong position of having lots of competition for places.
