U13A v The Downs Malvern
This was an exciting match and Abberley seemed to take control in the opening ten minutes. They had the majority of possession and after a short corner shot from Bella, Arabella was quick to clean up the rebound and give us the lead. With record temperatures for October it was hard for the girls to keep going in the heat and unfortunately The Downs were able to draw level before half time, which for our girls could not have come any sooner. There continued to be chances at both ends and the two goalies were kept busy, with Daisy making some great saves. The Downs looked dangerous after half time and with plenty of subs on the sidelines they were able to maintain a good pace of play. When they took the lead it was looking like they may have been able to run away and score more goals but Abberley dug deep and defended with discipline. Emily was faultless at the back, complimented well by Sylvie. Frances worked very hard on the wing and was effective both in attack and at getting back to mark her player. Arabella and Bella were constantly looking to score but it was Issy who managed to get herself in the right position to draw equal. As full time approached Abberley looked like they were going to be able to hold out for the draw, however, the Down’s fresh legs thanks to having subs made all the difference in the end and they managed to score a third. Abberley never gave up and deserve a lot of credit for their efforts today.
