U13B Netball V TDM (A)
Having jumped in to the minibus in a snow flurry at Abberley, the U13Bs were delighted on arrival at The Downs Malvern to find out that we were to enjoy the shelter and warmth of the sports hall.
We were also pleased to welcome Molly and Meadow to our team today and it was good to have our A team supporting from the side-lines as the match began.
The Downs were strong from the off and, where we took a while to get started, they capitalised on their possession and scored nine goals in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw improved play from Abberley. Grace and Maria showed good skill, dodging well to lose their players when we were attacking and Arabella worked hard at sticking with her partner when in defence. Meadow moved well in our attacking circle and Mollie held her own as goal keeper against a tall opponent. Elsa was well positioned in the circle so it was a shame that she didn’t get to have any attempts at shooting. There were no goals in this quarter so at half term the score remained The Downs 9, Abberley 0.
In the third quarter, Evelyn, as goal defence, worked hard to help bring the ball up the court when we were attacking and Mercedes had a run out as wing defence, showing that she is becoming more versatile in the positions she can offer. We enjoyed more possession in this quarter but we struggled to get the ball in to our circle over a tall defence. The Downs again were more successful in their circle and added a further three goals to their score.
In the final quarter, Annabel was drafted in to the position of goal shooter and Grace enjoyed a turn as goal attack. This worked well to boost our score with Annabel scoring some excellent goals from a range of positions. Aggie enjoyed playing as wing attack in this quarter and made some excellent passes in the centre third. The Downs continued to play well and managed to score a further five goals to our three. The final score at the end of this enjoyable game was Abberley 3, The Downs 17
