U13D boys hockey v Bromsgrove

It was a real pleasure to watch the boys play hockey this afternoon. Bromsgrove started the match strongly but Abberley really dug in and quickly adjusted to the pace of the game. I was so impressed with the boys’ skill level and understanding of the game; some very clever passes were made and at times there was some good individual skill on show. Freddie had an outstanding game in goal, making many important saves and reading the game well. Henry and Ruben were solid in defence, making numerous vital tackles and their distribution of the ball progressed as the game did. Harvey, Ben and Kit played well in midfield, bridging the gap nicely between defence and attack and keeping the ball moving. Archie and Hector were fantastic in attack; they played positive, confident hockey, moving effectively off the ball and making some very clever passes. We held Bromsgrove to 1-0 for much of the game and looked like scoring ourselves at times. Unfortunately though, in the last 15 minutes we began to tire- they had 3 subs which kept their legs fresher than ours and the game ended in a 0-4 loss. It was a fantastic afternoon though and the score didn’t reflect how close the game was. Well played boys!
