U13s Bromsgrove Tournament
We had a much shorter journey today travelling just to Bromsgrove for another tournament. The U13s got off to a really good start and went 1-0 up against King’s Worcester in the first match thanks to a goal from Poppy. This was a close game but Abberley could not quite maintain enough possession and King’s came back to score three times. Emma came on and scored on the left post to keep us in the game but we ran out of time to rind the equaliser. The second match was really tough against Bromsgrove A, who came third at the IAPS tournament on Thursday. With a super reverse sweep, Poppy scored again, showing that Abberley have the potential to compete but we struggled in defence and Bromsgrove managed to get five past us. It was a similar story in the third match against Bromsgrove B (U12As) but a well worked short corner between Issy and Poppy resulted in another goal for our captain. Bromsgrove were fast and feisty and the final score was 5-1 again. For the final match the girls were now really tired and we had no reserves to provide fresh legs. Abberley battled but Trent College were too strong and we were unable to get our sticks down low enough or fast enough. When Immy got a knock to the knuckles and we went down to 6 players, the girls seemed to up the tempo and were rewarded with a goal from Poppy’s reverse sweep. Throughout the morning Poppy and Charlée showed great stick skills working forwards and were unlucky not to be rewarded with more goals. Julia and Grace worked hard up the wings and Issy and Immy were brave in defence. Evelyn made many great saves, especially in the last game. Despite not winning a match today it was clear to see the progress each of the girls have made in a very busy and tiring week, and I am proud of their efforts.
